Amazon Prime original brings us Unpaused which is an anthology film with 5 stories created around the emotional journey that people gone through during the lockdown. With a total run time of 133 min, and five directors handling 5 different stories, with excellent actors, each story get the sufficient run time and do the full justice to the concept on which the movie is made.
The Plot
Glitch: -The movie starts with “Glitch” where Gulshan Devaiah and Saima Kher straight take us to 2030 and make us frightened with the scenario where Virus has conquered our lives completely including our brain. This story deals with the emotion of fear that people are going through and not able to deal with normal life.
Apartment: -The next story “Apartment “where a famous publication house CEO Richa Chadha is getting suicidal during lockdown because of her past relations with her husband Sumeet Vyas and how it is dealt with. This story is well narrated and show how dealing with circumstances and situation at time is important.
RAT-A-TAT: This one is personal best where a 65-year-old woman Lillete Dubey (Finest performance in recent times) is getting irritated by her neighbors playing Thali and other stuffs during lockdown and then how her neighbor Rinku Rajguru (Sairat fame) came into her house due to rat and things unfold. This story deals with all emotions together where Ego, Anger, Hope and Love has been portrayed beautifully.
VISHAANU: – It deals with the plight of migrant workers and the struggle for the survival been faced by them. Abhishek Banerjee (Pataal Lok Fame) and Geetika Vidya (excellent actress) played it beautifully. This story mainly deals with hope and love for family.
Chand Mubarak: – The last story again deals with an elderly woman (Ratna Pathak Shah) who stays alone and beautiful bond she forms with a Muslim rickshaw driver Shardul Bhardwaj as Rafiq. During lockdown. This story is beautifully shot on Mumbai roads and have some nice camerawork to watch for. It captures the most important emotion of loneliness and hope that many going through specially during this lockdown.
The Pluses
Overall movie has many pluses around the story and performances. The way director handled the subject and tried to show the depth in each character is really appreciable. Special mention to Lillete Dubey and Geetika Vidya for their beautiful act.The concept of movie and entire shooting happened after unlock started, so it’s really good to have a good content ready in a limited time and presented to the audience and becoming the 1st of its kind movie being released.
Another important aspect of the movie is it’s background score and songs which are well placed on situation.
The Minuses
Not many minuses to find still some story were little unconvincing as compare to others. Which make them little weaker when we see them together.
FFC Take
Overall Unpaused is a good effort and try to showcase what most of us felt during lockdown. It was charming to see best of the performances from best of the industry actors. Recommended.
