Bollywood Movies in 2011

The year 2011 has had a few hits like ‘Stanley Ka Dabba”, ‘Murder 2’, ‘Tanu weds Manu & ‘Zindagi na Milegi Dobara”. Even ‘Shor in the city’ was appreciated. These films of varying genres have been well liked and received by the cinema going public. It goes on to say how cinegoers’ tastes are changing. People no longer like rosy, romantic movies with the hero and heroine running around the trees, singing songs and holding hands. Bollywood has come a long way from the time when the protagonists hid behind rose bushes when they wanted to kiss. Emran Hashmi, the resident serial kisser of Bollywood has gone his way kissing all the lips opposite him. But to get back to the topic, after these movies there are more to blow you away. At least, the promos of these promise some real action and fun.

1. Ra.One – This is a much publicized and awaited movie of the year 2011. It has also been called as the most expensive. There are robots, fast cars, and even faster bikes that are sure to enthrall you. This ShahRukh Khan movie is one about a superhero and if the promos are anything to go by, then Kareena provides the glamour quotient. As for how much it is liked, you have to wait for 26th October, 2011 to find that out.
2. Rockstar – 11th November, 2011 will find Rockstar released in cinemas all over. The promos do not tell much about the movie and leave you wanting to know more. All that you get to know is that a Rockstar, Ranbir Kapoor, is created when his heart is broken. This is the story of a Rockstar who was created and his fall. The music by A.R.Rehman is good.
3. Don 2 – Sequels are the in-thing in Bollywood now. After the old Don and the new Don, Don 2 is slated for release on 2nd December 2011. Wonder what more does Don 2 has to offer after the 2 old ones!
4. Dirty Picture – This is a much-awaited movie with Vidya Balan in a new avatar. The modest woman of Paa, has donned Silk Smitha’s blouses and bindis for this movie. Right from the word go, the promos show her in varying scenes with the three men, Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi, who are lusting for her. The movie promises to be interested. With Bappi da’s music, it surely will be musical.

There is one movie that has been left out as it was already released by the time this was written and that is “Mere Brother Ki Dulhan”. The movie stars Katrina Kaif, Ali Zafar and Imran Khan. The plot is old and the movie seemed to be fun when the promos had come out. Ali Zafar is convincing as the brother but Imran Khan disappoints. Katrina has a good role and one cannot help but wonder is Kareena Kapoor would have been a better choice! But you can watch it once, if only to cheer the debut director Abbas Ali Zafar.
