The countdown begins…….for the release of Agneepath
Less than 4 days for Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar’s tribute to his father Yash Johar’s 1990 cult Hindi film Agneepath to release, a remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s classic.
It may be recalled that the original Bollywood film made by Dharma Productions was a commercial flop movie but bagged several awards for the performances of the lead stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Mithun Chakraborty and Rohini Hattangadi.
In the remake film, lead actress Priyanka Chopra plays Hrithik Roshan’s love interest named Kaali Gawde, the role of
Krishnan Iyer MA portrayed by Mithun Chakraborty in the original has been removed from the upcoming movie. Veteran Rishi Kapoor enacts the character of drug lord Rauf Lala.
Surprisingly, Hrithik had refused to do this remake glorious history of the film, as he didn’t want to do a remake. But it was Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar who pressured Hrithik to sign the film. “I didn’t want to do a remake. I wanted to do films that have not been done before. But Karan Johar was insistent. I was almost forced into the film, made to hear the script and once I read it, I was blown away,” said Hrithik. He urged people to not compare him with Amitabh as he wouldn’t ever dare to step in his territory, “It’s very different from the original character. My character as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan is very simple, common man. He’s just Vijay. If you start comparing me with Mr Bachchan, I will fail at the word ‘go’,” added Hrithik.
This version of the film is conceived and directed by Karan Malhotra. “I was never interested in doing remakes, I am still not interested in doing remakes and I don’t think I will ever do a remake. When I was narrated the script, in 10 miniutes he made me forget that it was a remake and made me forget all the symbolic visuals I had in mind and I just reacted as an actor. I am very, very proud to be associated with this film,” Hrithik told reporters at the launch of the first teaser of the film.
Hrithik says that Bollywood action thriller Agneepath is the hardest film he has done till date. He will be seen in the role of an angry young man as Vijay. He plays the son of a schoolmaster, who turns into underworld don, to seek revenge against Kancha Cheena played by Sanjay Dutt for plotting his father’s death.
As far as the audio of Agneepath is concerned, songs like ‘Chikni chameli…’, ‘Deva shree ganesha…’, ‘Shah ka rutba…, and ‘Abhi mujh mein kahin…’ have attracted the audience. While Laxmikant Pyarelal and Jean Michel Jarre composed tracks for the cult classic, Ajay-Atul have scored the music for the latest version of Agneepath.
Eros International Media Ltd has announced that it will release Dharma Productions’ Agneepath in the international markets. Agneepath will open in cinemas on January 26.
